http://www.PhilinVancouver.com http://www.PhilinBangkok.com Where to eat in Bangkok Fat Gut'z Saloon Thonglor "Best Fish & Chips in Asia" is there slogan on the back of the servers shirts and after devouring the Platter for 2 (420bht $14.00) that slogan is 100% Correct! The fillet of Fish was tender, moist with crispy batter sorry I forgot to ask what kind it was, there was 3 big fillets on top a huge mound of great fries with 2 battered Prawns, 2 Pickles Onions (Grandma's recipe) and real Tartar sauce. We were hungry and polished it off pretty quick but 3 people could easily share it, highly recommended. There 2 for 1 Beers are Tiger and Heineken draft till 9pm but check their special boards as they add bottles and wine as well. Fat Gut'z is about hanging out, drinking and enjoying a decidedly non-Bangkok ambience. Opened by Australian Ashley Sutton, Fat Gut'z also has low lighting, dark woods, appealing decor and a cozy atmosphere like Sutton's first effort Iron Fairies, which has been a big hit, cool place to take out of town guests.
The similarities don't end there. At Fat Gut'z, the bar too is more prominent than the kitchen, the music is stellar and the drink menu is many more pages than the menu. Sutton hired New York based mixologist Joseph Boroski to design 16 New York-style cocktails, which are just as unique as the venue. Among the more intriguing is Junyo Maru, a drink made up of Irish whiskey, crushed cucumber, honey melon lime and maple. But our favorite has to be the Lancastria, solely because it includes candy floss in addition to your usual vodka, Sauvignon Blanc, lychee and lemon. And just as Iron Fairies brought beauties to a blacksmith shop, you're unlikely to find any fish and chips shop in the world attracting a collection of such good-looking people.
