Roasted Duck in Bangkok – Charoen Wiang Pochana (เจริญเวียงโภชนา)
Bangrak is one of the street food sanctuaries of Bangkok – meaning there are plenty of wonderful restaurants in the area.
Charoen Wiang Pochana (เจริญเวียงโภชนา) is long standing Thai, with a Chinese influence to it, restaurant that specializes in duck.
They do roasted duck to be more exact, not boiled duck.
And their wooden trophy cabinet in front of the shop shows that they do duck well.

Khao Na Bpet (ข้าวหน้าเป็ด) – Roasted Duck Over Rice
So naturally it was my duty as an eater to first begin with a plate of khao na bpet (ข้าวหน้าเป็ด), slices of roast duck over a bed of steamed rice.
The duck was drizzled a sauce made from its juices that dripped down to permeate the rice and made it a complete delicious dish. While khao na bpet is not my absolute favorite $1 menu dish to eat in Thailand, this was certainly pretty flavorful!

Khao Moo Daeng (ข้าวหมูแดง) – Barbecued Pork Over Rice
Many duck restaurants in Bangkok also serve khao moo daeng (ข้าวหมูแดง), the signature red barbecued pork over rice.
While normally moo daeng is seriously red and very sweet, this wasn’t as sweet as others and included a pleasant smoky flavor to it.
Another bonus was that I got nearly all lean meat, none of the grizzly fat – could have just been my particular plate, but that’s how I prefer it. Still, it couldn’t compare to Bangkok’s best khao moo daeng.

Ba Mee Egg Noodles and Rosted Duck (บะหมี่เป็ด)
The bowl of ba mee egg noodles and duck (บะหมี่เป็ด) was particularly well done.
While sometimes on the streets ba mee can be a little rubbery, these noodles were fresh and supple, complementing the roast duck nicely.

A lump of delicious noodles!
The noodles weren’t sticky at all, but were perfectly cooked and after adding a few generous spoons of chili flakes and vinegar, they were ready for consumption.

The Bottom Line

The roasted duck was better than average, very good if that’s what you’re in the mood for. The moo daeng barbecued pork was alright, and I thought the ba mee egg noodles were great.
It’s also worth a mention that Charoen Wiang Pochana (เจริญเวียงโภชนา) serves a full menu of stir fry dishes as well, though I haven’t tried any of them.

Charoen Wiang Pochana (เจริญเวียงโภชนา)

How to Get There

Located in the heart of Bangrak and just across the street from Robinson shopping mall, Charoen Wiang Pochana (เจริญเวียงโภชนา) is easy to get to and in a great location.
The easiest way to get there is to go to Saphan Taksin BTS station (where you can also drop by for some boat noodles), exit and walk towards Robinson, turn on Charoen Wiang road, and you’ll find the restaurant on the right hand side about 20 meters down the road – can’t miss it!
